HB 180 would authorize the Board of Trustees of Briarwood Presbyterian Church to appoint and employ one or more persons to act as police officers to “protect the safety and integrity of the church and its ministries.”

The bill would grant such police officers with all of the duties and powers of law enforcement officers in the state.

The bill would require every police officer appointed and employed to be certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and to meet all of its requirements, including continuing education.

The authority of any police officer would be restricted to the campuses and properties of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
