Valerie DeFillipo

Americans for UNFPA

Valerie DeFillipo is the President of Americans for UNFPA, the U.S. national committee for UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. Appointed in July 2011, Ms. DeFillipo leads efforts to increase political and financial support for the work of UNFPA within the United States. An established executive with over 30 years of experience in public affairs, global advocacy and program management, including field experience implementing UNFPA funded projects, Ms. DeFillipo brings unprecedented leadership and technical expertise to Americans for UNFPA. Ms. DeFillipo most recently served as Vice President, International Health for Abt Associates. Previous to that, she was Director of External Affairs for the International Planned Parenthood Federation, based in London.

As President, Ms. DeFillipo will expand the reach, influence and awareness of UNFPA in the U.S. through interactions with public and private sector leaders. Under her direction, Americans for UNFPA will expand its efforts to engage U.S. constituents to generate excitement, shared purpose and meaningful action in support of the world’s women. She is most known for her ability to work at both the grassroots and policy levels in domestic and global contexts.

Before joining Americans for UNFPA, Ms. DeFillipo worked at the local, state, national and international levels to further UNFPA’s global mandate of health and dignity for women everywhere. From 2009-2011 she served on the steering committee of the United Nations Foundation-led Initiative to Strengthen U.S. Leadership of Reproductive Health and Family Planning. She is an accomplished speaker on women’s reproductive health and rights issues. Ms. DeFillipo received her MA from Harvard University and carried out her undergraduate studies at James Madison University.
