Mary Fjerstad, RN, NP, MHS is a senior clinical advisor at Ipas, a nurse practitioner who has worked her entire adult life in women’s health care. She has worked with women of the Old Order Amish, indigenous women of the highlands of Guatemala, incarcerated women, women in the U.S. and in many low-resource countries. After mifepristone was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2000, she was hired by Planned Parenthood Federation of America to assist over 300 clinics throughout the U.S. to implement medical abortion services, track its use and develop a system for tracking adverse events. She has provided direct care, technical consultation or training in virtually every continent of the world.
