Sex can be a lot of things: a stress reliever, a calorie burner, something to do on a boring Thursday night when there’s nothing good on Netflix, and, oh yeah, an expression of love between people in a committed relationship (or something).

But there’s one thing sex should never be—unless you like it that way—and that’s painful.

Unfortunately, pain during sex is fairly common, regardless of a person’s anatomy. Things like infection, a medical condition like vaginismus or Peyronie’s disease, not enough lube, or a lack of sexual desire can all result in painful sex.

Whatever the reason, the good news is that it’s likely treatable. By no means should you accept pain or discomfort as part of a normal sex life.

Whatever else it’s “supposed” to be, sex should give you pleasure. In the video below, sex educator Cassandra Corrado will help you put the “good” back in good sex.
