“I don’t want to die,” Beatriz told the New York Times this week. The lupus-stricken, 22-year-old mother’s doctors have said that continuing her pregnancy is highly likely to kill her. That wasn’t good enough for the Supreme Court of El Salvador, who’ve now denied her a life-saving abortion, as reported Wednesday night by Rewire.

Tens of thousands of women die every year because of outright abortion bans like the one in El Salvador. Usually when we hear about one of these cases, like Savita Halappanavar’s in Ireland, we are sad, we are angry, and we promise to keep fighting in the memory of yet another woman killed by cruelty and ignorance.

This couldn’t be more urgent: Please give now to help Beatriz live.

All funds collected for Beatriz are being accepted by Women’s Link Worldwide, an international non-profit organization working to promote women’s rights. They will pass through tax-deductible contributions to the local Salvadoran organization Agrupación Ciudadana por la Despenalización del Aborto Ético, Terapéutico y Eugenésico (Citizens Association for the Decriminalization of Abortion), which is leading the legal fight on the ground for Beatriz. All funds will first and foremost be used for Beatriz’s medical bills, and any remaining funds will be used to help support the work of the Citizens Association.

Beatriz is dying. Please give now, before it’s too late.
