The Quote of the Week:

Speaking today on CNN’s State of the Union, Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), who held up health care several times to get his way on efforts to undercut insurance coverage of abortion care and women’s right to choose, and also score a huge federal subsidy for Nebraska, said the following:

“I don’t want to throw down the gauntlet here or make a bright line or anything like that,” Nelson said. “But you always know material changes, something that would change the paradigm from where it is.”

I don’t know about you, but when a Senator from a state with less than one-tenth of one percent of the US population of over 304 million people obstructs health care reform for millions of Americans so he can get his way, I think that is more than throwing down a gauntlet and drawing a bright line.

But I guess it works because he got what he wanted and we all lost.
