More Like Plan V…
This must be plan V... or at least plan P for the Bush administration.
After repeatedly politicizing emergency contraception, pressuring the FDA into going against recommendations by their own scientists, and trying in vain to establish Andrew von Eschenbach's independence, Bush finally decided to try something different. During Monday morning's press conference, Bush stated:
"I believe that Plan B ought to be -- ought to require a prescription for minors, is what I believe. And I support Andy's decision."
Wait - did I just hear that correctly? Listen to that little space between what he said... right there - the part where he implied Plan B ought not to require a prescription for adults.

Wow. The conservative base is in an uproar. Previously when it looked as though von Eschenbach might actually consider approving over-the-counter use for Plan B in order to get his nomination approved by Congress, the right-wingers called for his immediate withdrawal. That was for simply considering the application – after a year of stalling by the FDA, I might add.
And in response, Bush is sticking up for his buddy? And furthermore he actually implied approval of Plan B for women (even though scientists approved its safety for girls 15 years of age and older) – will the wonders never cease?
Well, even though Catholics don't approve of breaking up a marriage, they sure do want to divorce the President. I think it's about time that church and state were separated. Now if only politics and science could split amicably and stop fighting.
